Welcome to Music 34: The Foundations of Music!

Taken from the Syllabus:

Music 34 is an introductory level course that explores the fundamentals of Western European music theory. In the first two weeks of the course (Module #1), students will learn how to identify, notate, and describe a variety of musical rhythms and features. Students will also learn how to read pitches in the three musical clefs of treble, alto, and bass.  During weeks 3-4 (Module #2), students will understand the significance of the circle of fifths, key signatures, and the fundamentals of major scales. At the end of each two-week module, students will display their understanding of the topics through an activity worksheet. To deepen musical understanding, students will also need to participate in weekly discussion forums with their peers. Each week, a new discussion question will be posted. After each lecture, a quiz will also be administered to assess understanding. Students will also have to complete lecture drills, which promotes content practice. Course material will be presented through lectures and outside videos.
